Worcester, on the N1 between Cape Town and Johannesburg, also lies on Route 62. As one of the biggest wine-producing districts in the country, the town offers exellent wines as well as a rich cultural heritage. Worcester was established in 1820 by Lord Charles Somerset, governor of the Cape Colony at the time, and named for his elder brother, the Marquis of Worcester.
