This pretty little Free State town lies almost halfway between Cape Town and Durban on the popular N6 route. The town was named in honour of the Governor of the Cape Colony, Sir Harry Smith. The foundation stone for the local church was laid in 1848 on the farm Waterval. Smithfield is a tranquil oasis to those choosing to break their journey and enjoy the outstanding hospitality of the local community.
